Wife of John Jacob McVay (1759-1826). Married on Feb. 17, 1780 in Washington County, PA. Mother of 11 children including: Mary (McVay) Brandon, Jacob, Phoebe (McVay) Jennings, Sarah (McVay) Clutter, John, Rebecca (McVay) Draper, Samuel, Charity (McVay) Van Dyke, Abraham, Isaac and Ruth McVay. Her husband was a Revolutionary War patriot who fought for the 1st Battalion, Pennsylvania Militia under Capt. John Miller and Col. Henry Enoch. Sarah was the daughter of John Rude and Sarah (Benger) Rude.
The followingis an exerpt from her husband's will:
"Funeral expenses and all debts to be paid. To my wife 1/3 of personal property. To sons Abraham, Samuel, Isaac 50 acres of land each. To daughter Ruth 1 cow and 4 sheep. To grandson Cephas Brandon $2.00. Remainder of personal property to daughters Phoebe Jennings, Sarah Clutter, Rebecca Draper, Charity Van Dyke, and Ruth McVay. Remainder to be divided equally among executors. Witnessed 25 Sep 1824. Executors: Jacob and Abraham McVay. Witnesses: William Lindley and Pamelia Squier."
