MISS MARY ALDEN
Thursday morning, September 29, 1932, at the family home on the hill, Miss Mary Alden responded to the messenger and departed this life for that which is to be.
While probably she had been losing an unrecognized battle for several months, she was seriously ill only a few weeks. All that medical science and the constant, loving care of her sisters could do failed to stop the ravages of disease and the brittle thread of life snapped.
Miss Alden was the second daughter born to William H and Emily Williams Alden, one of the best known families of Wyoming and vicinity. Her entire life was spent in this community. She attended the public school for her earlier educational training and later completed a course in a Business College in Davenport. Thus were laid the foundations for the thoughtful, earnest, broad-minded womanhood which characterized all the years of her maturity.
The loss of her youngest sister three years ago was an unspeakable blow to her. It was the first break in the close circle of four, whose lives has been bound together by ties the breaking of which brought an agony of suffering which had not entirely ceased.
Funeral services were held at the family home Sunday, October second at two o'clock, in charge of her pastor, the Rev. G.H. Goodrick, assisted by the Rev. H.E. Wilcox, of Mount Vernon, a former pastor and close personal friend of the family.
Beautiful musical solos were sung by Mrs. Horace Smith and Mr. Luther Fuhrmeister of Cedar Rapids.
The pallbearers were Herbert and Robert Alden, Thomas and William Brodersen, George and Allison Fishwild. Interment was in the family lot in Mayflower Cemetery.
Friends in attendance from outside the adjacent neighborhood were: Cedar Rapids - Mr and Mrs Luther Fuhrmeister, Misses Clara and Nellie Fuhrmeister, Mr and Mrs H.J. Acter, Mr and Mrs J.C. Kettlesen Jr.; and Mrs Harriet Bagley. Fairfax - Mr Elmer Dodge; Marion - Mrs. Laura Kershner and daughter Elizabeth; Mount Vernon - Rev. and Mrs. H.E. Wilcox, Mr S.S. Haun and Mrs. Ida Haun Kettlesen.
