Harold James Blythe was born December 20, 1892, and died August 1958. He married Mary L. Sheffstall. She died in 1928. He then married Edna Rice in 1930 and adopted her son, James. They were employed at the TB Hospital in Hastings, Nebraska.
June 12, 1958 - Harold Blythe of Hastings, Nebraska, attended the Blythe fifth reunion at Herington [KS]. About 40 were present including his four sisters, which, with himself, completes this family. They are Mrs. J. Ruff of Russell [KS], Mrs. M.J. Kern of Delavan [KS], Mrs. Susie Butts of Quenemo [KS], Mrs. J.S. Oleson of Council Grove. Harold is a brother of the last [late?] Bill Blythe. Officers elected for next year: Albert Kern, Emporia [KS], President; Mrs. Luella Ek, Dwight [KS], Secretary-Treasurer.
August 15, 1958 - Harold Blythe Dies; A former Morris County [KS] resident, passed away this morning at Hastings, Nebraska. He was a victim of a heart attack. Word of his unexpected death was received here by a sister, Mrs. J.S. Oleson. Mr. Blythe was 66 years old. Born south of White City, KS in 1892, he also lived at Parkerville for several years. He was a World War I Veteran, having returned from duty in Germany in 1919. Besides his wife and one son, James, he is survived by four sisters. They are Mrs. Oleson of this city, Mrs. Mike Kern of Herington, Mrs. Jake Ruff of Russell and Mrs. Jason Butts of Quenemo. Funeral arrangements had not been completed as yet late this morning.
Harold J. Blythe, whose home was at 2705 West Seventh, died unexpectedly, Friday morning at the Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient but briefly. He was born 65 years ago in White City, Kansas. Services have been scheduled for Monday morning at 10 o'clock in the Brand Memorial Chapel, pending arrival of relatives from a distance. The Rev. Earle Barclay, pastor of the First Christian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Beatrice at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon. Blythe, who had been an employee of the Hastings State Hospital for the past ten years, was an engineer at the Hospital for the Tubercular in Kearney from 1928 to 1947. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts of Kearney. He is survived by his wife, Edna, and a son, Captain James R. Blythe of the United States Air Force who, with his family, returned recently from a three-year overseas assignment and was with his parents at the time of his father's death; and also a grandson.
