Jan Mazur, aged 92, passed away on September 23, 2004 at the Bethany Care Centre. Jan is survived by his one child, Witold Mazur, daughter-in-law Janette and a granddaughter, Barbara, all of Calgary.

Jan was born on February 12, 1912 in wies. Kinachowice, pow. Krzemieniec, woj. Wolyn, Poland. He was deported to Siberia on February 10, 1940 from home in Kolodno, Poland. Upon release from concentration camp, he traveled (walked) with his wife and son from Siberia to South Russia, Buzuluk, Khasakstan and joined the Polish Army of Gen. Anders. With the army, he traveled through Persia, Palestine and Egypt and was in the battle of Monte Cassino. Jan was demobilized in England in 1948, where he was joined by his wife and son from Tanganika, Africa. They lived in England, in the village of Burton on the Wolds and village of Quorn in Leicestershire and came to Canada in 1962. Before his retirement, he worked for Maloney Steelcraft of Calgary.

Funeral Mass celebrated by Rev. Stanislaw Poszwa, S.Ch. on Monday, September 27, 2004. at Our Lady Queen of Peace Polish Catholic Church, 2111 Uxbridge Drive N.W., with Interment at Queen's Park Cemetery.
