Johann Gottfried Egydius Bilke oldest sister, Hanna, had died when he was 8 years of age. His youngest sister had died when he was 5 years of age. His father passed away when he was just 10 years of age, and his mother passed away in his 13th year of age, leaving him orphaned.
When he was 25 years of age, he married Hanna Caroline Hummel. She died within days after giving birth to their third child. The child also passed away within days of the birth. He re-married four months later to Hanna Maria Theile.
Immigration to America and Natualized Citizenship
At the age of 46, Johann Gottfried Egydius Bilke depart Bremen in March of 1851. On 29 April 1851, Johann Gottfried Eqydius and his wife Hanna Maria; their five surviving children and the two children from his first marriage, arrived at the Port of New York, on the Ship Bremen Bark Caroline. The family originally settled in Sauk County, Wisconsin where the last child was born. Johann Gottfried Eqydius Bilke became a United States Citizen on 10 February 1857. The family's name is listed as "Bitke" on the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild.
Late in 1868 or early 1869 the family moved to the area of Newton County, Missouri.
