Birth: 1780
Frederick County
Maryland, USA
Death: Mar. 15, 1842
St. Francois County
Missouri, USA

Philip Zolman was the eldest son to Johann Adam & Susannah (nee Isenberg) Zollman of Frederick County, Maryland. He married Elizabeth in 1800 in Frederick County. After his father died in 1811, Philip and his family migrated west with brothers Jacob & John and their families around 1812/1813 to Fredericktown, Ohio {these 3 brothers dropped 2nd "L" in Zollman}. Final move for Philip & Elizabeth and their immediate family to Farmington, MO was in 1837. Their farm house was located in the area later known as "Glenda Place", hence the name of the cemetery. Philip was the father of 12, of which 11 made it to adulthood. See wife Elizabeth's entry for list of children.

Click on the pictures to the right to view 3 pages from Philip Zolman's probate record from 1847 and also a narrative for the headstone.

Also view history of Philip Zolman with a mention of the farm at what was later known as "Glenda Place" on his daughter, Rachel Zolman Meredith's obituary, viewed from her memorial entry, family linked below.

Also visit web-site House of Zolman/Zollmann for history of Philip Zolman managed by Mr. George Zolman, great (x3) grandson of Philip Zolman. His research has shown Philip's death was most likely March 15, 1842. Philip's two oldest sons, Peter and Adam, were the Executor's of Philip's estate. It stated that Philip as a land owner in Knox County, Ohio and St. Francois County, Missouri and that Philip subscribed his name September 1836 to his last will and testament in St. Francois County, MO.
On January 9, 1843 Peter Zolmman applied for a quit claim deed for the estate of Philip Zolman deceased. Peter filed and transfered the deed on September 25, 1843 to Elizabeth Zolman. reference: St. Francois County, Missouri Deed Book C, 1840-1845. Wife Elizabeth passed away on March 27, 1847 in St. Francois County, MO.

The assumption that Philip Zolman passed away in 1847 probably came about from Philip Zolman's probate record filed on August 12, 1847 in St. Francois County.

Note: Philip's younger brother Jacob with wife Elizabeth are buried in Quaker Cemetery on Zolman Road, just north of Fredericktown in Knox County, Ohio. Philip's next younger brother, John and wife Catharine are buried at the Berlin United Methodist (formerly M.E.) Church Cemetery in Berlin, Ohio a few miles north-east of Fredericktown in Knox County. The three brother's younger full-sister, Elizabeth Zollman, who never married and travelled with the brothers to Fredericktown, is buried in Baldwin Middlebury Cemetery north of town. Finally their older half-sister, Anna Maria (nee Zollman) Fogle (German Vogel) from their father's first wife Maria, is buried back in Frederick County, Maryland.
