George Berneking
George Berneking, fifth child of William Carl and Caroline Berneking, was born August 24, 1894, on a farm near Simpson, Ks and died Feb. 6, l965, at the St. Joseph's Hospital, Concordia, Ks at the age of 79 years, five months and 13 days. He spent all of his years prior to1943, on their home place, and received his education in the Simpson Public Schools. He became a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Glasco.
March 19, l919, he was united in marriage to Esther Koch, in her home, in Beloit, This union was blessed with three children. The family left the Simpson area and moved to a farm near Formoso in the spring of 1943, and have continued to reside in this community. Surviving members of the family are his dear wife, Esther, children, Margaret Bassford, Beloit, Wybern and Wayne, Formoso; one son-in law, Gerald Bassford, two daughters-in-law, Ruth and Dean; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Louise Stine, Shell Beach, Calif., and Katheryn Johnson, Solomon; numerous nieces, nephews and relatives. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Feb 9, 1965, at the Formoso Community Church, with Rev. Marvin Zwickey officiating. Burial was in the Balch cemetery. Pall bearers were Owen Moore, Donald Vetter, Carl Johnson, Max Guipre, Frank Ziegler, Bill Baughan. Music was furnished by Howard Fied, Jr., Herb Ross, Marin Zwickey and Mrs. Don hurd. Kramer Funeral Home, Mankato, had charge of arrangements. Out of town relatives and friends attending services were: Mrs. Louise Stine, Shell Beach, Calif; Mr. and Mrs. Russell Johnson, Solomon; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Johnson, Sidney, Nebr; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Baughan, Hutchinson; Mr. and Mrs. Max Guipre, and Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ziegler, Minneapolis; Jerry Johnson, Salina; Mr. and Mrs. Earle Markham, Independence; Mr. and Mrs. Lee Vetter, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Vetter, Mr. and Mrs. Rex Hodler, Mr. and Mrs. Owen Moore, Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Metcalf and Marianne, Mrs. Clara Wehl, Mr. and Mrs. Arlyn Simmons, Mrs. P.E. Bassford Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Ronald File, all of Beloit.
