Alexander Perryman was born on December 15, 1788, in Burke County, North Carolina, and was the son of William Perryman and Ann "Nancy" Stokes. His birth date is also given as January 17, 1788, in several sources, notably at He married Elizabeth Brown on July 5, 1815, in Adair County, Kentucky. The 1850 census lists the following people in the household:

1) Alex. Perryman, age 70, male, farmer
2) Elizabeth Perryman, age 60, female
3) Aaron Perryman, age 26, male, farmer
4) Oliver Perryman, age 25, male, farmer
5) Warner Perryman, age (90?), male, farmer
6) Wm. Perryman, age 17, male, farmer
7) (illegible) Perryman, age 10, female

Alexander Perryman died on April 15, 1872.
Alexander's daughter, Malissa, gives her father's birthplace as Kentucky in the 1880 census.
The epitaphs on the new grave marker for Alexander and Elizabeth Perryman are reversed. According to the original markers, Elizabeth is buried on the left, and Alexander is buried on the right.
