A Fatal Gathering
Last Thursday night at the home of John Rasch, in the lower Ives Creek community, a social gathering and birthday celebration took place and a number of neighbors were present.
Things went along smoothly for some time and finally a dispute arose between two brothers-in-law. The matter could not be settled amicably and a fight began.
The result was that one man was slathered unmercifully with a knife while the other man [Frank Peters] received a charge of lead from a gun. The charge entered the stomach and lower bowels.
Death came to the man shot at the hospital in Temple Friday and he was buried in Pilgrims Rest Cemetery on Sunday, Rev. J. G. Mueller conducting the services.
The other man is still alive and has a very good chance to recover while his brother who did the shooting has been admitted to bail in the sum of $300.
The dead man is survived by his wife and five children.
The tragedy is certainly fruitful enough of sorrow and it all came about over the discussion of the value of a cow which started between two of the women present.
