Retired coal operator, Herbert Preston, 87, died Friday, Mar 31, in Paul B. Hall Regional Medical Center. Mr. Preston was born December 13, 1901 in Johnson Co., the son of Edd and Elizabeth VanHoose Preston. He was a member of Stambaugh Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by two wives, Mary Oma Davis Preston, in December 1938 and Naoma Wells Preston, in December 1985. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth
Stambaugh, of Scottsdale, AZ and Cheryl P. Ramey, of Nippa; three sisters, Sophia Wheeler, of Ashland, Malta Johnson, of Hanover, IN, and Mae Preston, of Urbana, OH; and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, Apr 2, in First Christian Church of Paintsville, with Jerry Scott officiating. Burial was in Johnson County Memorial Cemetery at Staffordsville, with Paintsville Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Kenny Salyers, Ronald Adams, Walter Williams, Frank Adams, Tom Conley, Zeke Hensley, Mike Burchett and Donnie Music. Honorary pallbearers were Callas Kelly, Robert Blanton, Dick Barber, Walter Spears, Crate Rice, Paul B. Hall, Gene Deskins, Dough Phelps, Pete Phelps, Bill Music, Thomas Hazlette Jr., Howard Ramey and Dough VanHoose.

Herbert Preston, 87, of Nippa, died Friday in the Paul B. Hall Medical Center at Paintsville. Mr. Preston was born Dec. 13, 1901, in Johnson County, a son of the late Ed and Elizabeth VanHoose Preston. He was a retired coal operator and a member of the First Christian Church. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth Stambaugh of Scottsdale, AZ, and Cheryl Ramey of Nippa; three sisters, Sophia Wheeler of Ashland, Malta Johnson of Hanover, IN, and Mae Preston of Springfield, OH; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Christian Church in Paintsville by Jerry Scott, minister. Burial will be in Johnson Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 10 p.m. today and after 9 a.m. Sunday at the
Paintsville Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the W. R. Castle Fire Department, Wittensville, KY, 41274
