Shipping Tycoon. Stavros Spyros Niarchos was often called 'The Golden Greek,' He was an international businessmen. He foresaw a need for the transport of large amounts of oil following World War II. Creating supertankers, (massive, ocean-going ships), he was able to carry vast amounts of fuel to a variety of areas around the world. Niarchos was a constant rival to Aristotle S. Onassis, another successful, Greek shipping magnet. As global demand for his ships, transportation and oil increased, Niarchos earned millions. He diversified his holdings into diamond dealing, finances and eventually owned several race horse breeding farms. His wealth allowed him to acquire an extensive collection of art that included many famous, museum-quality artworks. The gentleman was wed five times. His first wife, Helen Sporides, was the daughter of a Greek Admiral. They were united in marriage in 1930 and divorced in 1931. Next he married Melpomene Cappris from 1939 till 1947. The daughter of Greek shipping magnet Stavros Livanos, was wife number three. Eugenia Livanos was his wife from 1947 through 1965. He had an affair with Pamela Churchill Harriman during this marriage, which seriously strained the relationship. She died under questionable circumstances. Automotive businessman Henry Ford's great-granddaughter was his fourth bride. Charlotte Ford was married to Niarchos between 1966 to 1967. His final wife was Athina Livanos, the younger sister to his third ex-wife. Their marriage lasted from 1971 untill her sudden death in 1974.
