Johnnie Russell Mitchell was the son of Carlos F. Mitchell (b.1911) and Dorothy Lucas (b.1916). He served in the U.S. Army in Korea (SP3), and on January 28,1956 he married Dorothy Pauline Tilman (b.1933), the daughter of Lee McFarland Tilman (b.1913) and Lydia Elsie Tetrick (b.1911).
Most of their married life they lived in the Mountain Grove, MO area. Early in their marriage they acquired property out of town where they raised their family in a home built mostly by Johnnie. He also worked hard improving the property.
They had four children: Ricky Eugene, Carolyn Kay, Kathryn Gale, and Brian LeRoy.
