Wolcott Beacon, 24 Jan 1957:

Frederick M McDuffie, a life-long resident of Wolcott, died at the home of his sister (Mabel) in Wolcott, Monday, January 14th at 8:30 p.m. Although he had been in ill health for several months, he was fairly active until his death.

A native of Three Oaks, Michigan, he was born June 11, 1875, the son of Joseph and Mary Mayes McDuffie. The family moved to Wolcott in 1876, and Mr McDuffie had lived on a farm northwest of Wolcott for many years. However, for the last several years he was accustomed to living on the farm in the summer and residing at the home of his sister during the winter months (in the town of Wolcott).

He married Annie E Benge in 1899, she died in 1950. Mr McDuffie was a stockholder and secretary of the Peoples Cooperative Store here for over 30 years. He was a member of the Wolcott Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge.

Survivors are three children Charles A of South Bend, Mrs Lenora Terwilliger of Chicago, and Mrs Dorothy Ervin of Gary; a sister Mrs Mabel Millard of Wolcott and nine grandchildren.

Funeral rites were held at the Wolcott Baptist Church Thursday with the Rev Lloyd Walker officiating. Burial in the Remington Cemetery.

Large land owner in White County, Indiana. Fred was great at math and wanted to become an Accountant. But his father discouraged him because he knew that one day Fred would inherit the farm and land.

Around 1896 or so, Fred met Annie Benge who had sailed here from England. They married on July 4, 1899. She wanted a big house - so, he built her a beautiful two-story house. He adored her and they had a happy and long life together!
