Obituary for Mrs Emma Houdyshell
Emma C. Mathews was born October 25, 1857 at Hagarstown, Mary-
land. She came to Russell county in 1874. On March 13, 1883, she was married to Lafe Winfield. To this union two children were born. Roy Winfield, deceased: Alice M. Winfield of Kansas City, Kansas. In 1888 she was married to James Houdyshell at Lucas, Kansas. Four children were born to them, 3 of whom are still living; Wm. Houdyshell, of Marion, Kans; Florence E. Tribby, of
Bunker Hill; and May N. Harrison, of Kentucky. Mrs.Houdyshell was stricken with paralysis while on the street at Bunker Hill, Kansas, Saturday, October 26th and died the evening of the same day. Besides her husband , James Houdyshell, and children, she is survived by one brother and three sisters. Funeral services were held at Bunker Hill Tuesday, October 29, 1918, and burial made in the BunkerHill cemetary. The following friends acted as pall bearers;
A.H. Shaffer, J.W. Shaffer, Elmer F. Shaffer, J.W. Fenix, G.B. Kisler, and Louis Best.
Miss Emma Catherin Matthews was born in Fredone County, Maryland, October 25, 1857, and died in BunkerHill Oct. 26, 1918, age 61 and 1 day
She was stricken early Saturday morning on her way home from her daughters, Mrs. Florince Tribby with paralysis, and died eve of same day. She moved from Maryland at an early date with her parents to Ohio, hence to Michigan, and after 10 years moved to Kansas, where she has been ever since.
She was married to Lafe WINFIELD March 3, 1880, 2 children, Leroy and Mrs. Allie Blessman of Kansas City were born to the couple. Leroy died in infancy. She was married to James HOUDYSHELL in 1886. Four children were born; William of Marion, May HARRISON of Louisville, Ky., Florence Tribby of BunkerHill, and Viola, who died at 16.
Survivors were brother, William Matthews of BunkerHill, sisters Alice Fisher of Kansas City, Mo., Mrs. Nellie Rolles, Delphos, Ind., and Bertha Hughes of Buffalo, N.Y., 7 grand children, 4 nephews, and 3 nieces of Kansas City, Mo., Warney and Herbert Fisher, Christie Blessman and Ada Briggsley, and Ethel Fisher, 4 nieces in Indiana and one in N.Y.
