Helen Joan Chandler, 91 of Elgin, died Jan. 9 at her home. A memorial service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday Jan. 14 at the Elgin Community Center.
Mrs. Chandler was born Sept. 8, 1914, to Bill and Hulda Ohms in Elgin. Her mother died and she was raised by her father and her sisters. On Sept. 23, 1931, she married Russell Chandler. They spent winters in Arizona prior to his death in 1989. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary, and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting, gardening and traveling.
Survivors include children and their spouses, Virgil and Virginia Chandler of Salem, and Derrill and Audrie Chandler of Elgin; caregiver and grandchild, Linda Chandler of Elgin; four grandchildren; six great grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; her companion Zoom Glasson and other relatives. Four sisters, Verda Gray, Nellie Sullivan, Margaret Wiles and Gladys Chadwick, all died earlier.
Memorials may be made in lieu of flowers to any charity in care of Daniels Chapel of the Valley, 1502 Seventh St. An online guest book is available on their Web site.
