Mary Elizabeth Foster was born June 21, 1837 to Jonathan and Huldah Griffin Foster in Rochester, New York. She married Edwin V. B. Hatch on November 15, 1854 in New York. They had one son, Edwin Lemuel Hatch. Her husband died in 1862. She then married Charles F. Potts in 1865 in Rochester, New York. They moved to Iowa and lived in Carroll, Des Moines, Linn and Marshalltown. Charles died in 1910 at the Iowa Soldiers Home in Marshalltown. Mary was also living at the Iowa Soldiers Home. She died there on January 6, 1925. She is buried in the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery. Charles is also buried at the Iowa Veterans Home Cemetery.
