Hubert Ray Homesley was born to Richard and Martha Puckett Hargis Ho(l)mesley. He had two half sisters: Emma Frances Hargis and Jessie Irene Hargis. He had three full brothers: Herschel L., Lloyd Clinton, and Bailey T. Hubert served in the Marine Corps during World War I. He was inducted in St. Louis, Missouri on April 24, 1915. His assignments were: Cuba 6 Apr/17;
Norfolk, VA 26 Sep/17; 58th CO 19 Oct/17; USS Minnesota 14 Dec/17; Quantico, VA 29 Mar/19; USS Buffalo 8 Jun/18; Azores 20 Jul/18; Nereus USS to US Norfolk, VA 18 Jan/19.
