| Birth: | May 23, 1877 | | Death: | Nov. 10, 1941 | Folk and literary figure. Born in Burr Oak, Iowa, the fifth and youngest child of Caroline and Charles Ingalls. After graduating Redfield College, she worked as a schoolteacher in Manchester, South Dakota. In 1901, she married Nathan William Dow. The couple had no children. After the death of their parents, her sister Mary briefly made a home with Grace before settling in with their sister Carrie. Although her family was immortalized in her sister Laura's ‘Little House' series of books, Grace remains little known. She was just eight years old when Laura left home to marry, and so she played a minor role only in the last books of the series. She apparently succumbed to diabetes complications at the age of 64 and was interred in the family plot in De Smet.
