WWI veteran. Drafted on Sept. 28, 1917. Discharged in Feb. 1919. He served aboard the S.S. Ossineke, a freighter, and also the U.S.S. Chemung (AT-18), an ocean tug.

The Observer Dispatch, Utica, March 10, 1972:

ILION - Grant J. Richer, 79, died Thursday in the Mohawk General Hospital in Ilion. He was an Ilion resident for 40 years and had lived for the past years in Utica. He was a house mover for the Kupiec Company, retiring in 1962. He was a veteran of World War I, a member of the Crowley-Barnum Post of the American Legion in Mohawk and was a member of the Ilion First Presbyterian Church. He leaves a niece, Mrs. Samuel Arcuri of Utica and a nephew, Harley Richer of South Otselic. The funeral will be at 10:30 Saturday from the Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home in Ilion. Burial will be in the Wildwood Cemetery at Lyons Falls. Calling hours are 7 to 9 today.
