OBITUARY: The Express-News, San Antonio TX, 30 Sep 2001
After 50 years of preaching the gospel, Reverend Charles Allen Plunkett, Sr. went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, September 26, 2001. Every area of his 65 years of life was committed to and centered around the God he served. He is now and forever in the presence of the Heavenly Father.
Reverend Charles Plunkett was raised in the piney woods of North Louisiana by sharecropper parents. At the age of 13, he accepted Christ. With no religious training, at the age of 15 he began preaching on the street corners of small Louisiana towns. Reverend Plunkett went on to attend Central Bible College in Springfield, MO and later received his Bachelor of Theology Degree. He went on to pastor churches in Ohio, Arkansas and Louisiana. During his last pastorate he was seen locally on KMCT-TV for four years with a daily devotional called 'Pastor's Study''. In addition, he had a weekly program on Saturday evenings. He and his wife had done extensive short term missionary work in several foreign countries. Because of traumatic life experiences, Reverend Plunkett authored a book entitled 'Renew Your Mind''. Ninety-five thousand copies of his book have been donated to the prisons of the United States and Canada through Chaplain Ray.
It is impossible to sum up in a few short words the tremendous impact that this man had on the lives of so many. He was revered and respected by religious leaders around the globe. Earth's loss is heaven's gain.
Awaiting an eternal reunion with him are his survivors: his wife, Naomi Plunkett of West Monroe, LA; two children, Debra Johnson and husband Johnny of Baton Rouge, LA, Charles Allen Plunkett, Jr. and wife Julie of San Antonio, TX; six grandchildren, Chad and Emily Plunkett, Jessie, Jared, Jordan and Jeffrey Johnson; one sister, Patsy Long of Shreveport, LA; two brothers, Huey Plunkett of Plano, TX and Dayton Plunkett of Ringgold, LA, along with thousands of fellow ministers, family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 1, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at The Family Praise Center, 5820 NW Loop 410, San Antonio, with Rev. Rick Hawkins officiating. The Interment will follow in Mission Burial Park North. Arrangements are with: Mission Park North Funeral Home.
