Son of Daniel & Sala Myra 'Sally' Wilson Knapp

Daniel Knapp Jr was determined to serve his country in the Civil War, even going so far as enlisting a 2nd time after being discharged due to disability.

His 1st enlistment was in Eliza, Mercer County, Illinois on 10 Aug 1862 into Co K, 102nd Illinois Infantry (documented in the Illinois Adjutant General's Report: Co K, 102nd Infantry, page 611).

Daniels' brother-in-law, Ezra Fuller enlisted in the same company on the same date.

Daniel was discharged on 13 Jan 1863, disability, and according to the histories of the 102nd the unit would have been at Gallatin, Sumner. Tennessee.

Daniels' 2nd enlistment was on 1 Jul 1863 into Co G of the 58th Infantry Consolidated. According to the "History of Mercer County, Illinois, 1882" the Soldiers' Monument in Aledo, Mercer, Illinois lists Daniel as enlisted in Company G, 58th Regiment, and listed in the National Roll of Honor as dieing while enlisted in the 58th Regiment.

Daniel married Martha Ann Essley, daughter of Elisha and Avarilla Pratt Essley, on 13 Dec 1864 in Mercer County, Illinois. They reportedly had no children.

Daniel gave his life for his country on 1 Aug 1865 in Montgomery, Alabama.
