He was a Kentucky Colonel, A Mason and a Shriner.
He worked on the N&W RailRoad out of Williamson WV as a signal maintainer, until his health required him to retire from heart attacks , then died of cancer a few months later.
He was a hardworking man and loving father. Over the years growing up , we went on camping trips to Canada in Algonquin Park for 6 weeks each summer. Making alot of new friends each year as well as joining up yearly with previous friends made. It was an amazing country as well as a vast variety of people and nationalities.
Over the years he did many things. He would plow peoples gardens in the fall and spring. Going up many "hollers" to help people. He would help anyone needs help and would give them shirt off his back , if they needed it.
He was a jack of all trades and could fix anything.
We attended Belfry Baptist Church at Belfry, Ky every Sunday as a family. I would lead the children choir in the morning and sing in the choir , play the piano if needed, and sang in church and at church events. He was always there and was always proud of me. He ruled with a firm hand and meant what he said. He didnt spare the rod and spoil the child. We respected our elders and loved them dearly. We were all included in his doings. Gardening, yard work, fixing things and hunting for squirels in the wee morning hours. [Taking care not to step on a twig and scare them away]. Or just chillin in the back yard, enjoying a weekend down time, in the evening coolness. Of course he would fall asleep. He taught us , and shared with us and taught us how to be a person with integrity .
"A man is only as good as his word", he would say!
He was many things and so much more.
But most of all "He was my Father"
