Pauline Carabajal Belarde Rodriquez
Birth: Feb. 9, 1903
Union County
New Mexico, USA
Death: Feb. 9, 1998
Montrose County
Colorado, USA

Pauline C Rodriquez, age 95, of Montrose died on her 94th birthday on Monday, Feb.9,1998 in the Valley Manor Care Center in Montrose. She was the daughter of Felipie and Matitda(Chavez)Carabajal, in Clayton, N.M., where she spent her childhood. She then was married in 1923 to Emilio Belarde, and then moved to Montrose a couple years later. In 1938 her husband Emilio passed away. In 1954 she was remarried to John Rodriquez who preceded her in death May 31,1997 in Montrose.

She single handly took care of her kids after her husband Emilio Belarde's death in 1938 till 1954 when she was remarried to John Rodriquez. Her husband John gladly accepted being a father figure to his step children. However, they were already were all growen up. But then there were plenty of grandchildren.

Pauline was my Grandma. My Grandma is best remembered for her extra good bread and cooking. She put a lot of love in her cooking. I sure loved her empanada's with miced meat! And her cookies, unbelievable! My Grandma and I were very close. Even though she lived 300 miles away, I always kept close contact with her. When I was a kid, I always saved some my dimes to call her long distance from a pay phone. She always looked forward to seeing me, as I looked forward to seeing her. My Grandma was as nice as can be, but if she didnt like what you were doing, she wasnt shy to set matters straight with you. She definitely had some authority when it came to enforcing obedieance. I use to grab her ear and she would just look at me...and then she would tell me to knock it off! It was cute, but she didnt think so.

Ten years before she left us, my Grandpa(her husband) became ill and was admitted to a nursey home. Grandma had a hard time bearing him not being home with her. She then had surgery on her leg from a prior injury. After that, She admitted her self to the same nurising home, and never left. She was happy, because she was there with her husband. To me that is as true love as it gets. She never once complained about being in there. She also enjoyed all the nursing home activities, especially bingo.

Towards the end, she was starting to forget things here and there, but she always knew who I was. It was such a good feeling inside of me. All the times I kept in contact payed off. I would travel all the way to Montrose and as I would walk in the door of the nursing home from a distance, she would stare straight at me untill I would walk all the way up to her. She then would say Bobby, its my Bobby. I always kissed her right on the lips. I miss her so much. She was my Grandma.

The birth date on the tombstone is wrong. She was actually born a year earlier in 1903
