John Nathan George was the son of John E. George and Cynthia "Sintha" Jane (Price) George.

John Nathan George married May Hulda Strait on 26 MAY 1901 in Yell County, Arkansas.

Dr. John Nathan "J.N." George, age 69, of Centerville, Arkansas, died shortly before midnight on Thursday, 04 NOV 1943.

Funeral services conducted by Rev. Counchman from Danville, Arkansas, Rev. Patton from Luxora, Arkansas, and Rev. Holiman from Ola, Arkansas, were held in the Methodist Church at Centerville, Arkansas, on Saturday [06 NOV 1943] afternoon. Friends from all sections of Yell County and from points throughout the state of Arkansas were in attendance. Burial was in Mt. George Cemetery with arrangemets by Cornwell Funeral Home of Dardanelle, Arkansas.

Dr. George was a native of Yell County, having been born at Alpha on 03 JAN 1875. After finishing his literary education in the schools of Yell County, he studied medicine and received his M.D. degree from the Medical College in Memphis, Tennessee, following which he took a postgraduate course in New York City. Dr. George etered practice of medicine at Birta, Arkansas, where he continued in the practice of his profession until 1912.

He was extensively interested in farming, livestock and banking, and at the time of his death was one of the largest land-holders in Yell County. He also took an active interest in politics, being elected County Judge in 1912, which office he filled for two terms. He also served two terms as Sheriff and Collector and two terms as State Senator from the District, then composed of Yell and Logan Counties.

Dr. George is survived by his wife, May "Hulda" George, and two sons, Claud "C.R." Reid George, an attorney from Danville, Arkansas, and Percy Valmond George, postmaster from Ola, Arkansas. (bio by: Ken Oliver)
