He was referred to as M V Mairs in 1860, Martin V Mairs in 1870, Van B Mairs in 1880 and Van B Mairs on his tombstone.

Note: The Cemetery Records of Macon County, Missouri Volume VI list him as buried in Strawberry cemetery. "Graveyard located just north of the county line, in Sullivan County, on the Noel Bennett Farm, east of Browning, Mo."

Actually, the Strawberry Cemetery is located near Linneus, in Linn Co., MO.
