Johnny Caldwell
Birth: May 7, 1938
Death: Jul. 11, 2009

Professional Boxer, Olympic Athlete. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he represented his country at the 1956 Summer Olympics in Melbourne, Australia and won a bronze medal while fighting out of the Flyweight Division. He was recognized as the World Bantamweight Champion by the European Boxing Union, when he defeated France's Alphonse Halimi in 1961. He relinquished the title after a knockout loss to Eder Jofre less than three months later. Caldwell retired in 1965 after compiling a record of 29 wins (1 knockouts), and 5 losses with 1 draw in 35 bouts. He died from cancer. (bio by: C.S.)
