Merlend Moroni Hansen was the son of Nora May Lowe and Moroni Hansen.
On December 12, 1935, Merlend and Helen Riggs were married. Helen was born at the home of her grandfather, James Winborg, just west of the Blacksmith Fork River in Millville. She is the daughter of Alma LaVerne and Dora Winborg Riggs. Often she walked nearly two miles to Millville School. In winter months, she rode the school wagon or the sleigh.
Merlend served as Mayor of Nibley for twelve years and served as President, Vice President and Secretary of the Cache Mayors' Association. He also served in two bishoprics.
In addition to being a homemaker, Helen was been employed as a secretary and as a production worker. She taught in the auxiliary organizations of the LDS Church and was in leadership positions in Relief Society and YWMIA.
The Hansens are the parents of: Todd R. (Carol Ann Larsen), Dora Mae (Paul Summers) and Loralee (Robert Mack Rich).
