British statesman. A highly successful Liberal and refomist politician, his career was prematurely cut short in 1885, following a much publicised divorce. The son of Sir Charles Wentworth Dilke, 1st Baronet, he was educated at Westminister School and Trinity Hall, Cambridge. In 1868, he became Liberal Member of Parliament for Chelsea. He proved to be a radical politician, instumental in the passing of the Third Reform Act, which granted the vote for agricultural labourers which threatened Consevative dominance of rural seats. Touted as a future Prime Minister, his career came to a close by his involvement in a notorious divorce case.
