Funeral service for Ethel Parks Thompson, 98 of Winnsboro will be held at 10 AM Saturday, July 11, 2009 in the chapel of Gill First National Funeral Home in Winnsboro with Rev. Max Lee officiating. Interment will follow in New Winnsboro Cemetery in Winnsboro. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 PM at the funeral home.

She was born to J.M. and Martha Jane Liles Parks on October 30, 1910 in Liddieville and passed from this life Thursday, July 9, 2009 in Plantation Nursing Home in Winnsboro.

Mrs. Thompson was a member First Baptist Church in Winnsboro. She was a graduate of Normal College (Northwestern State University) in Natchitoches with a masters degree in education. She was an elementary school teacher in Franklin Parish for 50 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband W.T. "Slick" Thompson; son William Parks "Billy" Thompson; three brothers Baskin Parks, Ramage Parks, and Nolan Parks; and two sisters Callie Browder and Mary Frances Alford.

Mrs. Thompson is survived by two sons Steve Thompson of Ferriday and Tommy Thompson of Shreveport; a daughter Betty Zane Williams of Baton Rouge; two sisters Jewel Doughty of Winnsboro and Hazel McWiggins of Winnsboro; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be John Guice, Andy Thompson, Jimmy Thompson, Billy Smith, John Williams and Ted Williams. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be James Doughty, George Price, Jr. and A. A. "Skip" Wolleson.
