Elva Anderson was born January 2, 1916 in Lovell, Wyoming to Lorenzo and Leah Workman. She worked beside her father on numerous homesteads in the Big Horn Basin. She received her schooling in the Kane and Lovell area. While living in Kane, she met Buryl K. Bonar "Buck". They were married March 26, 1934 in Red Lodge, Montana. Their marriage was blessed with five children. They later divorced.
Some time later she married Frank Anderson in Red Lodge, Montana. To this union three children were born. This marriage also ended in divorce. She moved to Thermopolis where she was employed by Empire Oil Refinery as head custodian. She also cleaned the Masonic Hall and many local businesses and homes. By these means she provided for her children. While living in Thermopolis, her parents shared a home with her, helping her and her children. After her father's death, her mother continued to live and work with her for many years until her mother moved back to Lovell. She retired after 20 years of service to the refinery. Due to failing health, she was disabled. At this time she moved to Denver, Colorado where she lived with her son, Elvin and his family for two years. Then Elva and her daughter, Leah, returned to Thermopolis until their move to Frannie in 1984 where she was cared for by her loving daughter Leah. She spent a few years in Casper with her granddaughter, after which she returned to Frannie.
As a youth she broke horse for which she had a natural talent. She was a fun loving person who never met a stranger. She loved to sing and was an excellent dancer; her favorite was the Charleston. She was an excellent cook. She and her sister, Tessie, operated a small cafe in Thermopolis.
She was active in the L.D.S. Church and served faithfully in many callings.
After a long illness, she passed away May 2, 1997 at her daughter's home in Frannie. Elva will be missed greatly by all who loved her.
