PIONEER LADY PASSES TO THE GREAT BEYOND
Mrs. Dorthea Marri Dahl was born December 12, 1849 at Ratzeburg in Lanenborg, which at that time belonged to Denmark, but which since the war of 1864 between Denmark and Germany-Austria has belonged to Germany. When she was twelve years old, she came to Vejin Jutland, Denmark.
She came to Oxford, N.J. in March, 1873, and her she was married Aug. 23, 1873 to Andrew Nissen Dahl. They lived in Oxford for 13 years and then moved to Lake Benton, Minn. where they arrived April 12, 1886. They setteled in Diamond Lake township where they built ther new home and togeth with so many pioneer families helped to change the country from virgin prairie to the fine community which it is today.
In the fall of 1920 they moved to Lake Benton, to the new home which they had bought in town. Mrs. Dahl had been failing in health for some time, and February 5th. she passed away. She was a true Crhistian woman, and as she had always faced life bravely, she met death with a smile upon her lips.
Service was held in the home and at the Danish church in Diamond Lake township last Friday, where Rev. Henrik Plambeck preached the funeral sermon in Danish and Rev. Goodmonson of the English Lutheran Church spoke in English. She was laid to rest at the Danish cemetery.
The church was filled to capacity by her relatives and many friends and many beautiful floweres decked the casket.
She leaves her husband. Andrew Nissen Dahl, and eight children: Mrs. Frank Fehrman, Lake Benton; Mrs. Charles Tyler, Minneapolis; John and Christian Dahl, Lake Benton; Mrs. Harry Breitenstein, Des Moines, Ia.; Andrew Jens and Fred Dahl of Lake Benton. She also leaves eighteen grandchildren and two great grand children. Three sons and one daughter preceded her in death.
Our dear mother from us now is gone.
Her soul no rest in heaven,
She was so sweet and good to us,
She ne'er will be forgotten A.D.
