JOSEPH D. YOUTSEY

Joseph D. Youtsey was born June 3rd, 1822 at Frankfort, Cumberland Co., Ky. Died at Russell, Ia., Feb. 18, 1906, age 83 years, 8 months and 15 days.

When but a mere lad he moved with his parents to Jackson Co., Ind.

He was united in marriage to Miss Deborah Covert June 18, 1846. This proved a happy union. Three years ago last October a sad accident occured which proved fatal to his beloved wife. To this union were born eight children, two dying in infancy, Mary a young woman dying in 1875, Pannel a young man dying in 1888; Sarah residing in Russell, Frank near Russell, Mrs. Flora Doane residing at the family home in Russell and Mrs. Caroline McClintock residing at Council Grove, Kan.

In June, 1854, Mr. Youtsey moved with his family to Lucas Co., locating on a farm two miles north-west of where the town of Russell now is. In the fall of 1898 he left the farm moving to Russell. Being one of the early pioneers he endured all the hardships falling to their lot. He gained for himself a compentency that placed him among business men.

He was converted in September 1891, during the meeting held in Chariton by Geo. F. Hall, and united with the Church of Christ. He lived a consistent life proving to all he was a child of God. He was a faithful husband, a kind father and a true neighbor. He was generous to a fault and spoke ill of no one. By his death the community has lost a noble citizen, the church a staunch defender and the family a true father.

Funeral services were held from the Church of Christ, conducted by Elder E. J. Emmons. Interment was in the Russell cemetery.

Husband of Deborah Covert. Son of John Youtsey and Elizabeth Davis.
