Eddie Mae Rookard Jones Martin
AUSTELL, GA-- On Thursday, July 2, 2009, a loving angel and woman of God, Ms. Eddie Mae Rookard Jones Martin of Boiling Springs, SC, answered the Lord's call to begin her eternal rest. She was a native of Spartanburg County, SC, and daughter of the late Mr. John Rookard and Ms. Annie Mae Fowler Jones.
Ms. Martin was a 1961 graduate of the Foster's Grove High School. Her career history included an array of textile and automotive manufacturing positions, supervisory roles, and various positions at assisted living facilities and independent contracting as a healthcare assistant.
As a longtime, good-standing member of the Foster's Grove Baptist Church, Ms. Martin faithfully and actively served as a member of the Foster's Grove Vision Choir, Sympathy Club, Pastor's Aide, Women's Ministry, and President of the Deacons' Wives Ministry for a number of years. "Aunt Mae," as she was affectionately called by many, was a devoted, generous, and selfless spirit who expended herself through many sacrifices to her entire family, church, and community.
As a devoted wife and widow, she departs her earthly home to reunite with her late husband, Mr. John Thomas Martin in heavenly matrimony. She leaves behind to cherish fond and loving memories and carry on her strong legacy, two daughters, Mrs. Alfreda Martin Jeter (Dennis) of Mableton, GA, and Mrs. Nakia Martin Alexander (Freddie) of Austell, GA; two grandchildren, Dennis Gary Wayne Jeter, II, of New York City, NY, and Patrick Idol Jeter of Morgan, GA; one great-grandchild, Summer Marcia-Anniettra Jeter; her loving mother, Ms. Annie Mae Fowler Jones; and twin sisters, Mrs. Evelean Hamilton Todd and Ms. Evelyn Jones, all of Greer, SC; three godchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Two sisters and one brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, July 8, 2009 at 3:00 PM at the Foster's Grove Baptist Church. Pastor Horace Wilson, Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in the Foster's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30 PM.
The family is at the home of a sister-in-law, Mrs. Martha Black, 210 Willow Oak Drive, Spartanburg. J.W. Woodward Funeral Home
