LEWIS W. DIGEL 70, of Springfield died Saturday, April 1, 1995 in his residence. He was born March 23, 1925 in Marion, Ohio, the son of Carl and Hazel (Epley) Digel. Lewis was a graduate of Springfield High School in 1943, Wittenberg University in 1950, Ohio Northern University, College of Law in 1952, and received his Juris Doctorate in 1967 from Ohio Northern University. He was a veteran of World War 11 serving in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman with the United States Marine Corp. Lewis entered law practice in 1953 and continued with his father, Carl in private practice for 24 years. He served as Probate/Juvenile Judge from 1977 to 1979. He was appointed Municipal Court Judge in 1979 and was re-elected to several terms serving until retiring in 1993. Lewis served the community in various community service groups and civic organizations such as, Treasurer and Secretary of the Y.M.C.A., President of Camp Evergreen Board, Chairman of the Budget Committee for United Way, Chairman of the Board of Elections, Chairman of the Clark County Republican Party from 1973 to 1977, Vice President of the Board of Elderly United of Springfield and Clark County, Clark County Safety Council, Police Athletic League. He was a member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church, Springfield Noon Optimists Club, Frantenal Order of Eagles number 397, St. Andrews Lodge Number 619 Free and Accepted Masons, Scottish Rite, Valley of Dayton and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Number 1031. Visiting hours were on Tuesday in the WOODS-ALLGIER FUNERAL HOME. Masonic Lodge services were held at 5:30 p.m. A memorial service was held Wednesday, April 5, 1995 in Northminster Presbyterian Church with Rev. franklin Sparks officiating. In lieu of frowers memorial gifts were to be sent to Northminster Presbyterian Church, Memorial Fund or Hospice of Mercy Medical Center.
