The Hartford Courant contained the following Friday morning:
Chester, March 28.--Ezra C. Church died this morning of pneumonia, aged 68. For many years he had run a black smith shop. He served four years in the United States army and was in several battles in the Civil War. He also acted as first selectman for a period. Mr. Church was born in New York State and after the war came to Chester. He leaves besides a wife, three sons, Elmer and Warren of this place, and Richard of Meriden, and one daughter, Miss Gertrude Butler of this place.
