The son of John & Maria Erisman, his siblings were William Hambright, Samuel F., Adeline, Mary Elisabeth, and Harriet Louisa. He married Amanda White and fathered Annie (b. @1851), Charles Boughter (b. 06/25/54), Edward (b. @1855), William H. (b. 06/19/57, d. 03/14/58), Mary E. (b. @1861), Catherine H. (b. @1862), and Lettie C. (b. @1866), and there is a six-year-old George B. in the 1880 census. In 1860, he was a restaurateur living in Columbia, Lancaster County.
He enlisted in Columbia August 1, 1862, mustered into federal service at Washington DC August 12 as 1st lieutenant of Co. K, 135th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was promoted to captain November 9, 1862, and honorably discharged with his company May 24, 1863.
In 1870, he was an innkeeper living in Lancaster Borough.
