He enlisted in the Union Army on March 22, 1865 in Boston, MA and was a Private in 62nd Mass. Potter's Unit. The newly formed volunteer unit remained in camp until May of 1865 when they were mustered out.

He had three children 1. Maria 2. Delia 3. William

He married Rebecca Armstrong McCoy on Oct 8, 1870 in Manchester, NH.

He was 42 years, 8 months and 9 days old when he died.

His occupation was listed as Shoemaker when he died. He was listed as married at the time he died. His death record says his father Joseph S. Manning was born in Charlestown, MA and his mother Hannah Leach Burnis (Burns) was born in Portland, ME.

Died July 11, 1889. Body was moved from Pine Grove Cemetery (unknown town) to Forest Hill Cemetery in 1906.

Parents named on the death certificate were Joseph Manning and Hannah Burns.
