WEST ATHENS, ME -- Earl H. "Sonny" Foss, 72, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at the Redington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan. Sonny was born July 17, 1936, in Athens, the son of Earl L. and Lillian (York) Foss.

He worked for many years at the former Hinman's Mill in North Anson, retiring after he suffered a serious back injury.

He enjoyed gardening with his wife and taking care of the many farm animals he had throughout his life.

Sonny was predeceased by his parents, his wife of 35 years, Goldie (Priest) Foss, an infant daughter, a brother, Clayton, a sister, Abby, two brothers-in-law, and two nephews.

He is survived by two sons, Wilson Foss and his wife, Debbie, of West Athens, and Richard Ellis and his wife, Debbie, of North Dakota; five daughters, Melinda Hackett and her husband, Richard, of Kentucky, Valarie Foss of Kentucky, Maya Oliver and her companion, James York, of West Athens, Betty Foss and her fiancé, Arthur Fletcher, of West Athens, and Bobbi Jo White of Bingham; five sisters, Frances Tuttle of Skowhegan, Ruth Moore and her husband, Carl, of North Anson, Shirley Gordon and her companion, Merton, of Embden, and Erma Atwood of Madison; a brother, Fred Foss and his wife, Donna, of Norridgewock; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Sonny's family would like to thank the staff at Maplecrest Rehab and Living Center and Redington-Fairview General Hospital for the care they gave Earl during his long illness.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday July 10, 2009, at the Sunset Cemetery on Fahi Pond Road in North Anson, with the Rev. Mark Tanner officiating.

Cremation and Service arrangements are by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
