Our beloved mother and grandmother, Alta May Braithwaite Dean, age 89, passed away in her sleep on January 2, 1997 at Heritage Eastridge Rehabilitation Center after a lingering illness. She would have been 90 years old in three weeks.

She, along with her twin brother, Alton, were born January 28, 1907 in Manti, Utah to Robert Francis and Emma Buehler Braithwaite.

In her early childhood, her family moved to Arco, Idaho, where she was raised on a dry farm. She graduated from Brigham Young University and taught elementary education for many years in Idaho and in the Salt Lake and Granite School Districts. She was a court recorder and served as head of the Stenographic Bureau at BYU. She was also an assistant to Governor Herbert Maw during his administration.

In 1942, she married Dr. Vaughn Hunter; later divorced. On June 19, 1952, she married Albert James Dean, founder of A.J. Dean and Sons Ready Mix Concrete, in the Manti Temple, later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple, who preceded her in death on December 11, 1974.

She was an active member of the LDS Church and served in numerous callings and positions including Stake Relief Society President; Spiritual Living Teacher, Ward Organist and Visiting Teacher. She attended the Temple weekly for nine years until her health failed her. She served LDS missions to Hawaii and St. Louis, where she was instrumental in bringing the gospel to many souls.

She is survived by her sons, Michael David Dean (Partha) and her grandchildren, Cynthia, Lynette, Jeffrey, Leslie, Jonathan, Celeste, and Mary. She is also survived by her older sister, Geniel and her twin brother, Alton.

Mom, we love you and miss you already, but look forward to our joyous reunion with you, Dad and our Savior.

Funeral Services will be held in the East Millcreek Eleventh Ward Chapel, 2700 East Evergreen Avenue, at noon on Monday, January 6, 1997. Friends may call one hour prior to the services and also at the Cottonwood Mortuary, 4670 South Highland Drive, on Sunday, January 5, 1997 from 6-8 p.m.
