Mr. Pierce was the eldest son of George P. and Mary Pierce, born Sept. 15, 1861 in Jefferson county, Tennessee. He came with his parents to Hardin county in 1875, where he has since lived except one year in Marshall county. In 1890 he and two brothers bought land in the Chester neighborhood, five miles west of Union, where he lived thirty-two years. He was married to Mattie Hunt in 1892. He united with the Friends church at Chester that year and has served in the capaciy of manager of the board, Sunday school superintendent and teacher until February, 1924, when he retired from the farm because of ill health, and bought a home in Union.
He is survived by his wife, two brothers, John, of New Providence, and George O., of Union, two sisters, Mrs. E. B. McClean, of Union, and Mrs. Thomas Latcham, of Marshalltown.
