Barngrover , Charles Elliott - 3 June 1937

Charles was a pioneer on the Santa Fe trail and was a cook on the big trail drives.

He married Alberta May Gosline and moved to Taylorsville, CA where they built a small 3-room cabin with a rock foundation and basement.

The mortuary confirmed that he was cremated and sent to Riverside County to a private residence. He is not buried in our county. There was a family letter written that I saw in the file stating their request for him to be sent there.

Death of Charles Elliott Barngrover


The death of Charles Elliott Barngrover of Taylorsville occurred Thursday, May 27. The funeral service was held Sunday, with the Rev. Stanley Webster in charge. Burial was in the Taylorsville cemetery.

Charles Elliott Barngrover was born in Adel, Iowa October 27, 1861. He was the sixth child in a family of nince. He was the son of John Smith Barngrover and Sara Ann Kinnick Barngrover.

His boyhood was spent on a farm in Iowa. In 1890, he was united in marriage to Bertie May Goseline, who died in May 1926.

To this union were born three children, Jay, who died at the age of 13, Clair Barngrover of Worland, Wyo., and Mrs. Arlene Taresh of Taylorsville.

Charles Barngrover was truly one of the pioneers of the great west. In his early days, he helped drive the big herds of cattle on the Santa Fe trail. Later, he was a farmer in Iowa, Nebraska, Montana, Wyoming and California. He spent the last 16 years of his life in California.

He leaves to mourn his death two sisters, two brothers, two children and eight grandchildren.
