Canadian politician and statesman - Roméo was the 25 Governor-General of Canada, appointed to by Queen Elizabeth on February 25, 1995. He was educated in France and was a a teacher before becoming the Press Secretary for both Lester B Pearson and Pierre Trudeau. He ran for and won for the Liberals in the 1972 Election. As governor general, LeBlanc proclaimed National Aboriginal Day on June 21. He was also credited with opening Rideau Hall to the public, holding a garden party in 1997 that drew 10,000 people.
