Russell was saddened Saturday by the death of Mrs. J. N. Jeffries who has been ill for a short while.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from the Baptist church, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals and interment was made in the Russell Cemetery.

Mr. Jeffries, who has also been quite ill, was unable to attend the funeral but is reported bearing up well and apparently much better.

Elzina Jane Logan, daughter of Isaac and Elizabeth Logan, was born August 14, 1849 in Muskingum Co., Ohio and passed away at her home in Russell, Iowa on January 22, 1938 at the age of 88 years, 5 months and 8 days.

When about 5 years of age she came with her parents to Ottumwa, Iowa, locating on a farm near that place, where she grew to young womanhood. In 1868 she came to the home of her brother, John Logan, south of Russell, and since that time her entire life has been spent in the vicinity of Russell.

On April 26th, 1873 she was united in marriage to Samuel M. McKinley and to this union were born three children, Bertha, Ernest W. and Alva G. She was preceded in death by her husband in June 1887 and also by the daughter, Mrs. Bertha Johnson and son Alva G.

She was married November 20, 1900, to J. N. Jeffries and lived on a farm near Confidence for about 2 years, moving to Russell in the fall of 1902, where they have since resided.

Early in life she accepted Christ as her Savior and united with the Methodist Church of Ottumwa, Iowa, later transferring her membership to the Trinity Evangelical Church where she has since remained a member.

Mrs. Jeffries was the last of a family of ten brothers and sisters. Besides the bereaved husband, she leaves to mourn their loss, the son Ernest W., of Walsenburg, Colo., 5 grandchildren, 6 step-children, 27 step-grandchildren, and 10 step-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Mrs. Jeffries had the highest regard of all who knew her and took keen interest in the welfare of loved ones, neighbors and friends alike. She will be greatly missed, not only in the home circle, but by all who knew her.
