In an odd note, John Bowling appeared in the 1880 Reynolds Co., MO census with a new wife - Nancy Mooney and a number of her Mooney children, as well as John's 2 oldest children, Sarah & William. John, Sarah & William all born in Indiana. John Bowling married Mrs. Nancy Mooney on Jan. 10, 1880 in Reynolds Co., MO. The marriage must not have lasted long and John, Sarah and William went back to Indiana.
It is not known if John and Minerva were divorced, but may have been so. John also appears in the 1880 census with Minerva and the 5 children in Jackson Co., IN, and then he remarries again to a woman named Mary about 1883.
If anyone can shed light on these odd events, please let me know!
