Mrs. Bettie Kittany, 87, of Blytheville, passed into eternal life on June 20, 2009, after a brief illness. Born on January 27, 1922, to the late Nejimi Ellis Saliba and Zydan Basheer Saliba, she was a lifelong resident of Blytheville and a member of First Presbyterian Church. Over the course of her lifetime, she served her church and her community as a Sunday school teacher, registration coordinator for Vacation Bible School and treasurer of Women of the Church. She participated in a number of volunteer activities, of which her favorite and most fulfilling was more than twelve years of cheerful and dedicated service at Blytheville nursing homes.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by three brothers: Richard, Mitchell and Elliott Saliba; one sister, Adebe Saliba, and her loving husband, James V. "Jimmie" Kittany whom she married in 1946.

She is survived by her five children: Dee Kittany of New York, NY, Jimmy F. Kittany of Marion, Mary M. Kittany of Little Rock, Elizabeth Connolly of Florence, KY, and Peter Kittany of Silk Hope, NC; three sisters: Rose Saliba of Blytheville, Manera Sims of Hattiesburg, MS, and Amelia Kahalley of Mobile AL; a daughter-in-law, Annette C. Kittany; two sons-in-law, Michael Connolly and Daniel Marshall; her grandchildren, Lindsey Kittany Ankersen, Sean Michael Connolly and Katie Kirkpatrick; one great-grandchild, Peyton Elizabeth Ankerson; ten nieces and nephews, and twenty-two great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Wednesday, June 24, at First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. until noon, with the funeral service immediately following. Rev. Warren Wilkewitz and Rev. Ed Knox will officiate. Pallbearers will be her nephews, Stephen and Bill Kahalley of Mobile, AL; nephew Rick Sims of Aberdeen, MS, nephew Charles Sims of Hattiesburg, MS, Jack Simers and Randy Jumper of Blytheville. A prayer service with recitation of the rosary will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 23 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, led by Rev. Joseph Pallo. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the First Presbyterian Church in Blytheville. Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be e-mailed to
