Troyce Herndon Murphy Drake, 77, Newnan, Georgia, died February 23, 2002. She was born in 1924, the daughter of Virgil and Mildred Herndon in Meriwether County. She spent most of her life in and around Pearson, Georgia, where her family owned and operated the Drake Theatre. She was a lifelong member of the Pearson United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by husbands, Anthony Murphy and Chester A. Drake; and five siblings, Roger Herndon, Bernice Maxwell, Thurla Drake, Virgiline Thornton, and J. M. Herndon.
Survivors include sons, Arthur Herndon Murphy, Newnan, and Virgil Walter Drake, Roswell; a daughter, Chesta Louise Drake, Roswell; grandchildren, Matthew Murphy and Kathryn Fleming, both of Birmingham, Alabama; a brother-in-law, R. D. Thornton Sr.; nephews, R. D. Thornton Jr. and Quillian Thornton; nieces, Dyanne Beavin and Thurla Taylor; and four grand-nieces.
Services were at Jones Funeral Home chapel, Newnan, with Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. Interment at Alvaton Baptist Church Cemetery, Alvaton, GA.
