Mark David Alexander, 90, died on Friday, June 26, 2009.
He was the last surviving son of Sale Creek Church of God pioneer minister, Rev. Samuel Logan Alexander. Mr. Alexander was a veteran of WWII and a retiree of Combustion Engineering.
He was well-known as owner/breeder and promoter of championship quality equines in the Tennessee Walking Horse and Spotted Saddle Horse Associations. His reputation as a bass singer of Southern Gospel music was well-known in the tri-state area; he was a member of the "Travis Quartet" of Dayton, Tn.
He was proud to be a past president of the Sale Creek Lions Club, and former member of the Chattanooga Beekeepers Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Roselyn Gann Alexander; parents, Samuel Logan Pinckney (Anna Mae Carroll) Alexander; sisters, Clarice Fuller, Jessie Underwood; brothers, Hershel, Cornelius, and Harold Alexander; and grandson, Brandon Tackett.
He is survived by two sons, Rex (Carol) Alexander, of Soddy Daisy, and Edward (Diane) Alexander, of Gilbert, Az.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 28, in the funeral home chapel with Bishops Opal Scott and Kenneth Bolton officiating. Interment will follow in Welsh Cemetery in Sale Creek.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday, at the funeral home.
