Lewis Ballinger, 86, of Sterling, died Friday, March 23, 2001 in Sterling.
Visitation is from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. today, Monday, March 26, at Tennant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, at Tennant with the Rev. Tom Peacock officiating. Burial will be at the Fleming Cemetery.
Mr. Ballinger was born on Feb. 2, 1915 to Harman and Ida (Empson) Ballinger in Meade. When he was seven the family moved to Haxtun. He attended school there and graduated from Haxtun High School in 1934.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War II and was sta tioned in Hawaii in the communications department. After his discharge he returned to Haxtun, where he farmed until 1989 when his health failed. He also worked
in town part-time.
On Feb. 2., 1947 he married Zelma Brown at the Fleming Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 164, the Haxtun Scottish Rite of Free Masonry and also a 32nd degree Mason. He was a Rainbow Dad, served on the South Platte Conservation Board and was a member of the Fleming United Methodist Church. He enjoyed having the family brand, 7U, as the second oldest brand in the state of Colorado.
Mr. Ballinger is survived by his wife, Zelma Ballinger, of Sterling; a daughter, Rene' Ballinger of Littleton; a step son, Darrell Igou of Denver, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lynette Alferos in
