John Edens Chilton Times February 9, 1917
On Saturday last Paul C. Edens received word from Edgar that his father, John J. Edens, had passed away at his home at that place on Friday. The deceased, though past 81 years, had been in his usual good health until some three weeks ago when he complained of not feeling well, since which time his decline was rapid, the cause of his death being old age.
John J. Edens was born in Holstein, Germany, August 29th, 1836. He remained in his native country until 1853 when he came to America, locating for a short time in Fond du Lac County and later moving to New Holstein, this county, onto a farm three miles south of the village. Mr. Edens was an excellent citizen, quiet in manner and doing his full share for the betterment of the community both in this county and in his northern home.
The funeral services were held at the German M. E. church at Edgar, after which the remains were brought to his old home in New Holstein and on Tuesday were laid to rest in the family lot in the New Holstein cemetery, Rev. A. Plappert of that village officiating at the grave.
He is survived by a widow, four sons, William of Granton, Albert J., of St. Paul, Minn., Paul C. of Chilton, Otto of Spokane, Wash., and two daughters, Mrs. Adolph Paulsen of New Holstein and Mrs. Louis Kandler of Antigo.
