On March 14, 1936, he married Jennie Gosselink at the First Christian Reformed Church parsonage in Pella. They farmed southeast of Pella until retiring in 1979, at which time they moved into Pella.
He was a member of the Third Reformed Church and had served as a 4-H club leader and on the board of Black Oak Center School.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, Shelly Bales; two brothers, Rev. C. A. and Henry; and two sisters, Mrs. Gerrit (Edna) Van Roekel and Mrs. Gerrit (Grace) Vis.
He is survived by his wife; three sons and their wives, James and Elaine of Houston, Texas, and Keith and Rosalie and Bruce and Marilyn, all of Pella; one daughter Phyllis Bales of Shreveport, La.; 10 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; two brothers, Arnold of Pella and Harold of Leighton; and two sisters, Mrs. William (Clara) Blom and Frances De Bruin, both of Pella.
